Overview

The Nepal Women's Global Network (NWGN) invites submissions for research projects focused on the experiences, practices, and contributions of the Nepali diaspora in the United States.

This grant supports social science research utilizing primary and/or secondary data.

Purpose

         This grant supports original research in the social sciences that utilizes primary and/or secondary data to investigate experiences, practices, and contributions of the Nepali diaspora in the United States. The areas of focus include, but are not limited to: women's empowerment, gender-based violence, immigration, migration, and refugee experiences, identity and belonging, community formation and civic engagement, education and academic achievement, health and well-being, social integration and adaptation, labor and employment, language and cultural preservation, intergenerational dynamics, political participation and advocacy. Proposals should aim to generate new insights to enhance the understanding of the Nepali diaspora.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Affiliation: Graduate students, researchers, and faculties affiliated with a US academic institution are eligible to apply.

Principal Investigator (PI): Must be a woman of Nepali origin

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Interested applicants should submit the following documents:

  1.  A research proposal (maximum five pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, 1-inch margin) outlining:
    - Objectives, research context, and topic
    - Methodology
    - Budget with rationale for the expenses
    - Timeline
    - Expected output and deliverables indicating dissemination plan
    - References (excluded from the five pages)

  2.  Two-page curriculum vitae (CV) highlighting relevant experience, qualifications, and grants.

  3. One-page personal statement explaining connections to Nepal and Nepali Diaspora.

  4. A letter of support from a faculty advisor, department chair, or another official at the academic institution confirming your affiliation and endorsing your proposed research.

OBLIGATIONS

  1. Grant recipients are required to submit documentation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval to NWGN for funds to be disbursed.
  2. Grant recipients, especially the Principal Investigator (PI), are required to become members of NWGN.
  3. Grant recipients are required to attend and present their research findings at the subsequent NWGN Biennial Conference.
  4. Grant recipients are required to submit a final 2-page report detailing the status of the articulated deliverables and the budget.
