Board Member: Dr. Iccha Basnyat, Virginia

Iccha Basnyat (PhD, MPH) is a Professor of Global Health Communication in the Global Affairs Program with a joint appointment in the Department of Communication at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Basnyat is the 2025 recipient of the National Communication Association's (NCA) Global Communication Award for her contribution to the field. Her research examines the intersections of culture, gender, and health (in)equality. She has served in several disciplinary leadership positions, including Chair of NCA’s Health Communication Division and Research Council Chair on NCA's Executive Committee (EC). She helps organize a major biennial DC Health Communication (DCHC) conference at George Mason University. Dr. Basnyat is a senior editor for two major disciplinary journals. She also serves on the editorial boards of numerous disciplinary journals. In addition to serving on NWGN’s board, she also currently serves on the EC of Nepali Academics in America (NACA).
